Sierra Giganta - Ranch Culture / Ranch Gardens
Highlights - This trip offers a wonderful
opportunity to meet some of the local folks
and learn the history and ranch culture of Old California. Tents and campfires under the stars are home for the nights in the beautiful Sierra de la Giganta.
For the Ranch Garden Ride - the pride of the señoras at the mountain ranches are the flower gardens. In spring we travel to visit and admire the splashes of color, an attraction to migrating birds and brilliant hummers too !
After breakfast and check-out from your favorite hotel in Loreto, we'll start up the road into the mountains and begin learning about the natural history and history of the area. After arriving at Rancho Viejo, we'll meet our mules and local rancher guide and head out on
trails leading from the ranch to the quaint historic
village of San Javier. We'll have lunch at a small restaurant and visit the mission and
its beautiful 300 year old gardens.
In the afternoon we'll ride south of
the village to ranches, desert gardens and oasis
pools. Some riding will be along little used
mountain dirt roads, some over ridges and old
canyon trails. Sometimes we stop at ranches to share a meal with the families, and sometimes a trail lunch. Campfire dinners at the end of the day to let you unwind and enjoy the desert silence and sounds. Enjoy the multitude of stars at a beautiful remote camping site each day. (some 2 to 3 day trips can be arranged for smalll rooms rented in the village of San Javier)
This may be arranged as a 2 to 5 day ride... getting to know 3 to 10 different ranches in the San Javier watersheds. On our last riding day we'll head back to our
ranch trailhead and in the afternoon return to
Loreto. Overnight
in Loreto Hotel on your own. For more details contact us.
